Description: The Research Associate leads item and test development, coordination, and initiatives related to the Lexile Frameworks (Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking), with particular emphasis on EFL test and item development. Major responsibilities include managing assigned Lexile projects and team members in test specification development; test and item writing according to specifications; aligning, developing, and calibrating curriculum; and writing and presenting to educate others about Lexile EFL products. MetaMetrics has high expectations regarding work quality and ability to work cooperatively and independently. Strong written and oral communication skills are required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manages the EFL Lexile teams research and evaluation efforts for the development of products, assessments, and specification of reading, listening, and other domains for both native speakers and learners of English.
  • Supervises and evaluates assigned Lexile Curriculum Specialists and Project Support Specialists, including item writing, workload, team output, priorities, training, schedules, and payroll as established in collaboration with the team
  • Conducts domain analyses for new tests, writes item specifications, develops sample items and trains/manages item writers in item development related to assessment products.
  • Assists with management of the item bank and MetaMetrics test delivery system in addition to conducting item reviews
  • Estimates project requirements, resource needs, and related costs for assessment products and research studies.
  • Defines and constructs product/test specifications, including item format, number of test forms, number of items, number of passages, test administration logistics, and environment, reporting information, and test interpretation information.

Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises staff assigned to EFL projects, including day-to-day work for all assigned projects and initiatives. Coordinates staff in other departments when applicable to project assignments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizations policies and applicable laws.

. Requirements: Education and Experience - MA in TESOL/TEFL or related field, 3-5 years supervisory experience, and 3-5 years experience in assessment development and/or administration required. Background in ESL, EFL instruction strongly desired.

Computer Skills - Proficient in Windows XP environment, intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), basic e-mail (Microsoft Outlook) and basic internet navigation

Other Requirements - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals in the field of educational assessment and educational instruction. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and clients (as necessary).
